A future patch will attempt to fix things, with the aforementioned randomisation of pattern points cited as an area that can be improved. Thankfully, the game's official Twitter account says that improvements to the costume system are incoming. On top of that, you need anywhere from 100 to 1000 pattern parts to unlock a single costume - and there are quite a lot of them.
In other words, you might not even get parts for the outfits that you want. This issue is compounded by the fact that pattern parts are assigned to random costumes. Arcade runs and online matches give you tiny amounts, to the point where if you're actively trying to get new outfits, they're barely worth playing. Gold is easy enough to obtain - you just play the game - but pattern parts are only rewarded in bulk through completing challenge missions. Right now, if you want to unlock a new outfit, you need two in-game currencies: pattern parts and gold. Grinding for additional costumes in Dead or Alive 6 is an absolute slog - so much so that we dinged the game for its unlocking system in our review.
